Burlington, VT -  350Vermont’s Summer Pop-Up Series will take the Burlington-based climate organization to four Vermont communities: St. Johnsbury, Rutland, the Upper Valley, and Bennington. From June 29 to July 1, the pop-up will kick off with a stop in St. Johnsbury.

WHAT: 350Vermont takes its climate mission on the road, kicking off a statewide summer pop-up tour with three days in St. Johnsbury. It includes a traveling exhibit, a film screening, workshops, performances, kids’ activities, and more.

WHEN: June 29-July 1

WHERE: St. Johnsbury, various locations including the Catamount Arts Center and St. J Anthenaeum. A full schedule can be found at http://bit.ly/2sFgfqo.

350VT’s Jen Lazar describes the pop-up as a “mix of a traveling roadshow, a listening tour, a fierce commitment to climate justice, a set of powerful workshops and trainings, the excitement of overnight summer camp, and incredible climate leaders from across the state.” The pop-up tent itself, featuring info booths, art, postcard-writing, kids’ activities, and more, will be based outside the Catamount Arts Center on June 29 and outside the St. JohnsburyAthenaeum on June 30 and July 1.

Other events, including cantastoria performances, a film showing, and workshops on themes ranging from “climate and racial justice” to “solidarity singing,” will be held at a variety of local venues. The pop-up is designed to engage more Vermonters in the movement for climate justice by building a network of community-run 350 groups.

According to the 2016 Yale Climate Opinion Map, a majority of Vermonters (61%) are worried about global warming, but in many parts of this rural state, environmentally concerned Vermonters still feel isolated and, perhaps, powerless in the face of this overwhelming climate crisis. The summer pop-up will encourage people to get involved, take action, and build community.

About 350Vermont: 350Vermont is a statewide organization in Vermont working to build a grassroots movement to reverse climate change. 350Vermont’s mission is to catalyze the cultural and systemic transformation needed to reverse climate change and return to 350 ppm of carbon in the atmosphere. Although we are an affiliated group of350.org with a similar mission, 350VT is an independent organization, with local campaigns to divest the state pension fund, advocate for a carbon pollution tax, and stop any expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure.
